Vancouver School Board are planning to deploy Microsoft Copilot, a type of generative AI, into classrooms across Vancouver.
A brief timeline
- The Vancouver School Board (VSB) first started talking about Copilot and their plans for schools in a VSB “After the Bell” podcast episode in October 2024.
- In May 2025 they announced they would partner with Microsoft to put Copilot in schools.
- In December 2025 VSB sent out a survey to students asking for feedback (only visible if you are a VSB student or staff member). The form contents make it clear that they are planning on deploying Copilot or something similar in the near future.
- They talked about their plans in an episode of the CBC podcast “This is Vancouver” in January 2026.
Students at local schools have also started their own campaign to push back against Copilot being used in schools.
